What does it mean to be a good person? What ideal traits should he hold?

Cultivating positive thoughts and incorporating moral values can contribute to a happier and more fulfilling life.

Moral values are certain beliefs, principles & ideas that guide an individual behavior and decision. It is a code of conduct that is generally accepted in a society. For eg; not taking advantage of vulnerable persons, avoiding violence, being generous and kind to others. When we act in a moral way, we promote good values & thoughts. It also develops strong character traits such as honesty and integrity.

Here are some good thoughts to consider:

· Acceptance – welcome people with different ideas and practices.

· Compassion –sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others or to suffer together.

· Gratitude – focus on the things you are thankful in your life.

· Honesty – truthfulness and sincerity.

· Integrity – the quality of being honest and having strong moral values.

· Generosity – the quality of being king and generous, willingness to part with resources, time etc. It fosters harmony and promote satisfaction.

· Courage – the ability to do something that frightens one, bravery.

· Respect – a feeling of deep admiration for someone, honoring others or showing reverence.

· Politeness – exhibiting good manners, behavior that is respectful and considerate of other people.

· Tolerance – capacity to endure continued subjection to something without adverse reaction, accepting others with their differences.

· Kindness – be kind to oneself and others, it creates a positive rippling effect in the lives of people.

· Optimism – approach challenges with a positive outlook, a belief to overcome them.

· Positivity – think good side of any situation, surround oneself with people who support and motivate you.

· Growth – a belief that mistakes and failures are opportunities for learning, each mistake gives you a lesson to learn in life for betterment

· Mindfulness – practice of being present in the moment. It can reduce stress and anxiety. Let your past not hinder your present.

· Healthy habits – focus on a healthy life with healthy diet, exercises and mental wellbeing.

· Resilience – face setbacks and challenges with determination to bounce back in life.

Cultivating a positive mindset is a continuous practice, it’s alright to have moments of negativity, but by consciously focusing on the good thoughts, one can gradually shift one’s overall perspective & experience a more positive and fulfilling life.

Parents play an important role in shaping children’s behavior and character. We cannot expect our children to do well in life if we do not teach them good values. Parents, relatives and society all contribute to a child’s behavior that make him a good individual going forward.

Let us try to bring about change in the behavior of people by changing ourselves. We often expect people to change for us, but seldom do we realize that it is we ourselves who have to change in order to have a happy life. We very often think about other’s mistakes and shortcomings and advise or criticize hoping that they would change but we will not even move a finger to remove the log in our eyes and insist on removing the speck that is in the other person’s eyes. To have a better life let’s try to imbibe good qualities in life and make this world a better place to live in……
